One of Few Remaining Fuegos.

What? – A 1983 Renault Fuego GTX finished in silver and powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine providing 108bhp. Only kept by three owners, this eighties sports coupe has spent a sleepy life in a garage on the Isle-of-Wight, where it was purchased new.

Where?  – Advertised on eBay, based in Shanklin on the Isle-of-Wight.

Odometer reading? – 105,000 miles over a 31 year life span, equating to 3,387 miles on average per annum.

The Bad Bits? – Some minor spells of paint bubbling and small surface scratches reported. Check out that bubbling though as small patches of rust are apparently forming on the wheel arches. Repair work should be carried out sooner rather than later. Plus two minor cracks in the rear lights and attention needed with the handbrake.

Why? – Renault’s Fuego was based on the R18, but featured masses of technology which set it apart from rivals at the time. The Fuego was the first car in the world to feature remote central locking, the first mass-produced four-seater coupe to be designed in a wind tunnel and the first car with steering mounted controls.

Furthermore, the design was styled by Robert Opron, the man responsible for the Citroen GS, Citroen SM, Citroen CX and Renault 25. Competing with the likes of the Opel Manta and Ford Capri, these vehicles are an absolute rarity today. We certainly have ourselves a definite contender for full classic status. To be precise, only two of the GTX models exist on Britain’s roads today.

This particular example also comes with an extensive service history, 12 months MOT and 6 months tax.
